Episode Forty - Topher

Kia Ora

Welcome to the fortieth episode with Topher.

Topher is a Battalion Chief in Davis County, Utah. He's also a husband and a father of four children. Two girls and two boys. He started in construction at a young age but thought he wanted to be a dentist. He knew he liked medical things and was good at it. He quickly realized he loved framing the best and was good at it and making good money. But while going to school, he realized he didn't want to be a dentist and started looking for other options.

This is where he found his passion of fire and rolled with it. He served a mission for his church for two years in Bolivia and then met a girl and married. All the while he was working in and on his fire career. He started simply subbing once a month. But then it slowly turned into a lot more when a merge happened in the county. He started full time and then quickly became an engineer, then captain and now Chief.

Topher talks to us about the differences in these positions and what it takes to get there. He talks about some stories on the job and balancing that out with his family.

It was amazing to sit down with Topher and listen to his story.

Please come and listen to Topher's amazing story and who he is. We're so blessed to have people like Topher to run into fires to save us and our things. I know I'd be running out. Topher also saves lives, all the time. Something else I couldn't do. It's so interesting to listen to how he does it.
